The Microsoft BackOffice line of products are applications designed for client-server computing. The Microsoft BackOffice consists of the following products:
| Microsoft SQL Server - a client-server database | |
| Microsoft SNA Server - for connection to IBM Host systems | |
| Microsoft Systems Management Server - for advanced network administration and software distribution (Requires SQL Server) | |
| Microsoft Exchange Server - An electronic mail system for Local Area Networks | |
| Microsoft Internet Information Server - for creating an Internet server using Windows NT. Internet Information Server 2.0 is included with Windows NT 4.0. IIS 3.0 is included with the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2. | |
| Microsoft Proxy Server - Now part of the BackOffice suite, this product allows an Internet proxy to be set up between your TCP/IP or IPX network and the Internet. |
Other Microsoft products are part of the BackOffice family, but are not shipped as part of the BackOffice CD set. These products were released after the "core" BackOffice products were released. Examples include: Microsoft Site Server, Microsoft Transaction Server, etc. For more information, visit Microsoft's BackOffice page.
Just Released! - Microsoft has just released a new version of BackOffice specifically for small businesses. Microsoft BackOffice - Small Business Server includes many of the products found in the regular BackOffice lineup (NT Server, IIS/FrontPage/Index Server, Exchange 5.0 w/ Outlook, SQL Server 6.5, Proxy Server 1.0, and Fax Server.) except it is now found in a single product designed, and priced for small businesses. For more information, visit Microsoft's BackOffice Small Business Server page.
Microsoft BackOffice products give your current network added functionality and value. The BackOffice solutions allow you to take full advantage of client-server computing.
Network Technologies Group has worked with and implemented BackOffice solutions. For example, the Anderson & Associates World Wide Web site is handled by a Windows NT 4.0 server using Internet Information Server 2.0, MS Proxy Server, and Microsoft FrontPage. Network Technologies Group helped in the implementation and configuration of the A&A Web server.
We also have experience with other BackOffice products. Richard Neff, the owner of Network Technologies Group, even wrote about Systems Management Server and Internet Information Server 3.0 for the Microsoft BackOffice 2 Unleashed book, published by Sam's Publishing.
